I purchased this as a first phone for my 12 year old son. So far it’s been a good choice. The features are more than adequate without being overkill. It’s not really a smart phone however and synchronizing data is limited. Better to just put any music and photos on a storage card via card reader and then pop it in the phone.
In order to better maintain parental controls and keep usage costs down, I elected to have a wix block placed on the phone. This prevents data usage. It does allow for SMS texts however and that’s fine. Since we have unlimited family text plan, we are able to encourage more concise communication and spend less time using voice minutes. Since kids his age would rather message each other anyway, this arraignment works well. The Pantech C740 works fine for this.

Purchased this phone from AT&T (not Amazon)Had phone for 4 days when it started having problems. Screen went blank, could not call or text, so I plugged it in to charge it thinking that was the problem. Went to wash some dishes, came back to check the phone and it was showing check battery on the screen. So not having completly dried hands from doing the dishes I removed the battery cover and battery not noticeing the strategicaly placed moisture indicator right were you touch to remove and insert the battery, and got the indicator wet. Removed and replaced the battery but phone still does not work. Took it back to AT&T. They said nothing could be done because of water damage to the phone, even though the batteries water indicator was still good. If you buy this phone good luck and be carefull if you have to remove the battery.

This phone is the most frustrating bit of consumer technology equipment I’ve ever come across.
The center button you see at the bottom accesses the Internet. There is no way to change this. If you don’t have an Internet plan, you start paying nuisance fees immediately. You can’t reprogram the button functionality on the phone. The only way to prevent the nuisance charge is to have all internet communications turned off – including all picture message sending.
If you want to be able to send pictures (part of their unlimited picture sending) without nuisance internet charges THEY MAKE YOU PAY $5. 00 per month per phone for a parental limits features. This is (as a ATT support person agreed) a slap in the face.
So if you are going to buy the full unlimited Internet plan, go ahead and buy this phone. the keyboard and number pad are cool. If you are not going unlimited Internet – DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

this phone is the best phone in the world. its “cool” its easy to text on. it slides two different ways, which is the coolest thing ever. you can also make it slide both ways at once, even though you’re not supposed to. the only bad thing is that it is kind of bulky. other than that it is great. i’ve dropped it a few times and nothing has happened. it also went through the washing machine for a whole cycle. i was worried because i didn’t have a warranty. i was so afraid it wouldn’t work but guess what, it works as if nothing has ever happened. i saw water in the screen i took a blow drier to it and the water left, then i put it on the fridge for a few days. then i put the battery back in and it worked as good as new everything works, screen, buttons, camera ect. this is truely the best phone ever only the best phone can go through the wash and work perfectly fine with little effort to get it fixable.
